A scientific and cultural webinar titled “The Question of Pashtunistan: Pazhwak’s Works and Views” was held online by the Pazhwak Foundation.
The program brought together a number of Afghan cultural figures, researchers, and experts who discussed and exchanged views on Professor Abdul Rahman Pazhwak’s thoughts, writings, and perspectives related to the issue of Pashtunistan.
Speakers at the event highlighted Professor Pazhwak’s literary, political, and intellectual standing, saying that his works and views reflect an important part of Afghanistan’s contemporary history. They noted that revisiting his ideas can be valuable for today’s generation in understanding historical and national issues.
The webinar focused on the historical, cultural, and political dimensions of the Pashtunistan issue, Professor Pazhwak’s role in presenting and explaining this matter, and the significance of his works in contemporary Afghan studies.
Dr. Abdul Ghafour Liwal spoke about identifying the historical and political dimensions of the Pashtunistan issue through Pazhwak’s works. Professor Nasrullah Stanikzai examined the legal dimensions of the Pashtunistan issue from the perspective of Pazhwak’s writings and its consequences for Afghanistan-Pakistan relations.
Saeed Shinwari discussed the current situation, advocacy efforts, future aspirations of Pashtuns and other minorities beyond the Durand Line, and their right to freedom. Hamid Homayoun Obaidi also spoke about the approach to the Pashtunistan issue, its impact on the outcome of discussions on the matter, and its influence on public opinion in Afghanistan.
In this webinar, Farhad Pazhwak, President of the Pazhwak Foundation, spoke about introducing Professor Pazhwak’s published English-language works on the Pashtunistan issue, as well as the Foundation’s broader efforts to publish Pazhwak’s works and make them accessible to the public.
He also pointed to the difference between Professor Pazhwak’s personal views and the policy of the Afghan government at that time regarding the question of Pashtunistan and explained the dimensions of Pazhwak’s ideas and comprehensive outlook on freedom for all people and social justice at the national and international levels.
Participants also emphasized the need to organize similar academic discussions, saying that such programs can provide a constructive platform for dialogue among researchers, writers, and the younger generation.
