A comprehensive Eid and Nowruz celebration was held in Ajax, Canada, organized by Pickering Afghan Association and Northstar Community Service, showcasing a vibrant display of Afghan culture and joy.
The event, held on March 27, 2026, featured speeches on Eid and Nowruz, poetry recitations, riddles, and live music. Special entertainment programs and a dedicated recreational space were also arranged for children.
During the program, Jai Sahak, Executive Director of Northstar, delivered a special presentation titled “Unlocking the Youth Justice System in Durham.”
The event was hosted by Pegah Mohibzada. Speakers included Dr. Sayed Wali Sharifi, President of the Afghan Association of Pickering; Mohammad Shah Saromie; Marilyn Crawford, Deputy Mayor of Ajax and Durham Region Councillor; and Sayed Haseeb Sharifi, who spoke about Eid.
Rob Tyler-Morin, Councillor for Ward 1 in the Town of Ajax, also attended the event.
Organizers stated that the event aimed to celebrate Eid and Nowruz, strengthen social cohesion, and raise awareness within the Afghan community.
