Independence Day ceremonies, attended by many Afghans, featured speeches, Atan (a traditional Afghan dance) and music.
Speakers highlighted the value and background of freedom. Poems were also recited and epic songs sung in praise of the country’s independence.
Also, the Afghan Canadian Organization(ACO) hosted a dinner for participants of the ceremony with the financial assistance from the Afghan businessmen in Toronto.
Under the leadership of then King Ghazi Amanullah Khan, Afghanistan won its independence from Britain in 1919.
Although the celebration of this day has been lukewarm in the country for the past two years, the Afghans living in different countries celebrated it with enthusiasm on social media.
