Former governor Abdul Jabar Naeemi, former lawmaker Shinkai Karokhail, Yar
Naeemi, head of the Afghan Solidarity Association in Canada, Ihsanullah Zia,
Mohammad Nazir Ahmadzai and Habibullah Qadari addressed the meeting held
on Sunday.
The speakers asked the international community to condemn Pakistan’s unilateral
decision and not to forget Afghan deportees facing harsh winter and should assist
them.
They also criticized Pakistan for always using Afghan refugees for political
purposes. They said it was not for the first time Pakistan was meting out atrocities
to Afghan refugees. Historically, they said, Pakistan supported leaders of different
ethnicities and pit them against each other.
At the end of the meeting, a resolution was also issued which stated the following points:
1-Pakistan asked to take a decision about Afghan refugees jointly with the United Nations and the caretaker Afghanistan government.
2-It asked the UN, the United States, Canada and the European Union to provide
shelter and other assistance to the refugees in Afghanistan.
3-International aid institutions should assist refugee girls and boys in education,
health, food and clothing, the resolution said.
4-It called on the government of Pakistan to treat the refugees with respect and not violate international laws in dealing with the refugees and give the Afghan refugees time to settle their financial accounts peacefully.
