For nearly three months, all trade routes between Afghanistan and Pakistan have remained closed, bringing approximately $2 billion in annual bilateral trade to a standstill.
Traders say political decisions by both countries have disrupted the livelihoods of millions and caused significant economic losses on both sides. Complaints have become widespread across the Durand Line and in various cities throughout Pakistan.
In response, Pakistani traders have begun urgent meetings with government officials, urging swift action to prevent further losses. However, according to traders, the ball is now in Afghanistan’s court, and this time the final decision will be made in Kabul.
Regarding the ongoing trade route shutdown, we spoke with Abdul Nafi Jan, head of the Chaman Traders’ Association across the Durand Line.
