Canada-based Afghans converted an old church into a mosque.
This church building, which was located in the city of Ajax near to Toronto, was converted into a mosque named Al-Subhan.
The inauguration ceremony of this mosque was held on March 10. Dozens of Afghans living in Ajax and Toronto attended this ceremony.
The importance of the opening of Al-Subhan Mosque and future work and activities came up for discussion during the opening ceremony. Also at the end, the congregational prayer of Maghrib (evening prayer) was performed by many participants.
This building of Al-Subhan Mosque, which used to belong to the Church and a place of worship for the followers of the Christian religion, has been purchased at a cost of 2.6 million Canadian dollars on the initiative of the Afghan refugees and converted into a mosque.
Also, 300,000 Canadian dollars have been spent on the restoration work of this building with the financial assistance of Afghans and other Muslims.
The two-story building of Al-Subhan Mosque has separate sections for male and female worshipers. According to the person in charge of this mosque, this place will also be converted into an Islamic studies center for children.
Earlier, the Afghans living here did not have such a special mosque and Islamic center, so the opening of this mosque is considered a huge step by Canada-based Afghans.
More than 2,5000 Afghan refugees live in the city of Ajax, and in addition, this city is also close to Toronto and Oshawa. This mosque will be a place for gathering of Afghans during Eid celebrations and other Islamic and cultural events.
