Afghan wushu athlete Shahzada Safi has won a silver medal at the Asian Wushu Championships of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and is set to compete against a Chinese opponent for the gold medal.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education and Sports, Safi defeated athletes from Kazakhstan and Hong Kong in the 56kg weight category, securing his place as the silver medalist in the competition.
The statement added that Safi will face a Chinese competitor today in the final bout for the gold medal.
The SCO Wushu Championships began on June 26 in China, with athletes from 18 countries taking part, and will conclude on June 29.
Afghanistan is participating in the event with a six-member team.
