Iran’s Khorramshahr Ports and Maritime Department has announced the successful completion of the first liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) export operation to Afghanistan and Pakistan using multimodal transport.

Mehr News Agency reported on Saturday that Ali Askari, director-general of the Khorramshahr Ports and Maritime Department, said the first LPG export shipment to Afghanistan and Pakistan via combined transportation had been successfully carried out.

He described the development as an important step toward expanding export routes and strengthening the position of Khorramshahr Port within Iran’s logistics network.

Askari added that the operation further demonstrated the port’s capacity to support supply chains and promote regional trade, while creating opportunities for more effective use of multimodal transport.

He said: “The use of multimodal transport not only increases efficiency and facilitates cargo movement, but also contributes to the development of export markets and the strengthening of trade ties with neighbouring countries.”

Multimodal transport refers to the use of more than one mode of transportation—such as ships, railways and trucks—under a single contract.
