Afghan athlete Zabihullah Shahzad has won the gold medal in a concrete board-breaking international taekwondo competition in South Korea.
The 32-year-old athlete, also a sports journalist and spokesperson for the Taekwondo Federation, defeated his Korean rival, who has won the world championship several times, by breaking 12 concrete boards.
After the match, he wrote on his Facebook page: “Participating in this competition and winning a gold medal was a dream for me, which came true today. Thanks to prayers from countrymen. Allah gave me this honor.”
He wrote Afghanistan managed to win the medal after 19 years in the World Championship Taekwondo Festival. Last time, Afghanistan had bagged this honour in 2004.
