A dozen people were killed and 66 others injured in a blaze at a filling station in the southeastern Russian region of Dagestan.
The explosion occurred at a filling station in Makhachkala, with initial reports putting the death toll at 27. Interfax said the fatalities included children.
But hours later, the region’s health minister told TASS: “Now we have 66 people in hospitals. All of them are receiving necessary help. There are fatalities, their lists are being clarified.”
Investigators said a blaze erupted in a building of the car service station during maintenance work.
The fire triggered a blast, causing casualties and damaging nearby buildings and cars. At least 12 people were killed and 66 others wounded.
Meanwhile, Reuters quoted Russia’s Deputy Health Minister Vladimir Fisenko as saying 10 of the injured are in critical condition.
