US President Donald Trump has said that a framework agreement with Iran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday, although Tehran has not confirmed the timing.
According to Reuters, US and Pakistani leaders have projected a Sunday signing of a long-awaited framework agreement aimed at ending tensions between the United States and Iran.
However, Iranian officials have cast doubt on the timeline, while hardline groups in Iran have voiced opposition to the deal.
President Donald Trump announced on social media on Saturday that the agreement was expected to be signed the following day, which coincides with his 80th birthday.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said both sides had agreed on a framework for a peace deal and that Islamabad was preparing for an electronic signing on Sunday.
He added that technical-level discussions would continue during the coming week.
Iran, however, has not confirmed that the signing will take place on Sunday. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, speaking before Trump’s social media post, cautioned against speculation regarding the timing.
According to Iranian state media, Baghaei said, “It will not be tomorrow,” though he suggested an agreement could be finalized “in the coming days.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump also stated that once the framework agreement is signed, the Strait of Hormuz—a crucial route for global oil shipments that Iran has blocked—would immediately be reopened to international navigation.
