The U.S. president has said that a large part of a possible agreement between Washington and Tehran has already been negotiated and only finalization remains. However, an Iranian official has said that “the U.S. president is betraying diplomacy for the third time.”
According to Fars News Agency, Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social that he had spoken with several regional leaders and international officials about Iran and what he called a “peace memorandum of understanding.”
According to him, the talks were held with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and several other regional officials.
Trump claimed that an agreement between the United States, Iran and the involved countries had been “largely negotiated” and only its finalization remained.
He also said he had held a separate conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The U.S. president added that the details and final parts of the agreement are still under review and will be announced soon.
He also claimed that if the agreement is finalized, the Strait of Hormuz will remain open.
Meanwhile, the U.S. website Axios, citing informed sources, reported that the leaders who took part in the phone calls with Trump supported continued efforts to reach an agreement.
According to the report, the negotiations are progressing well, and mediators hope that an initial agreement in the form of a short document will soon be finalized and announced.
However, Mohsen Rezaei, a member of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council and an adviser to Iran’s leader, wrote today on his X account: “As predicted, the U.S. president is betraying diplomacy for the third time. By continuing the naval blockade and making excessive demands in the negotiations, he has further proven that he is not interested in negotiation and is pursuing other objectives.”
