The United States has carried out new strikes on several Iranian drone-related sites near the Strait of Hormuz, a media report said on Thursday.
However, Iran claimed the attacks caused no damage.
The US military shot down four Iranian attack drones and targeted a control station in the city of Bandar Abbas on Wednesday night, where preparations were allegedly underway to launch another drone, Reuters reported, quoting a US official speaking on condition of anonymity.
“These actions were measured, purely defensive and intended to maintain the ceasefire,” the official said.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, quoting a military source, reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy fired warning shots to prevent a US oil tanker from passing through the area, forcing the vessel to retreat.
Iran said US forces later struck an open area around Bandar Abbas, but no casualties or financial losses were recorded.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump dismissed an Iranian state media report claiming Iran and Oman would jointly manage shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a peace deal. Trump said the waterway would remain open.
He said no country would be allowed to take control of the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most important maritime routes, through which a significant portion of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies passes.
