At least nine people have been killed and several others injured after a four-storey residential building collapsed in the Moroccan city of Fez.
According to a Reuters report, the building collapsed during the night in a densely populated neighbourhood of the city.
Officials said residents of nearby buildings were evacuated over concerns of possible further collapses, while search and rescue operations are ongoing to locate possible survivors.
Sources confirmed that at least nine people have died in the incident, with several others injured.
Fez, one of Morocco’s oldest cities and its third most populous urban centre, has witnessed similar incidents in recent months. In December last year, two buildings collapsed in the city, killing at least 22 people.
Morocco’s Housing Minister Adib Ben Ibrahim said last year that around 38,800 buildings across the country are at risk of collapse.
