According to reports, Germany has deported 25 Afghan migrants, sending them back to Kabul on a charter flight.
Der Spiegel reported that the individuals departed last night and are expected to arrive at Kabul airport today (Tuesday).
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt confirmed the deportations in an interview with Bild newspaper.
He said: “The systematic and standardized deportation of criminals to Afghanistan is an important part of the shift in migration policy. Those who abuse our support and commit crimes here must leave our country.”
He emphasized that Germany will gradually expand the deportation process.
Reports indicate that most of those deported were transferred directly from prisons to the airport.
This comes as AFP previously reported that officials from the Islamic Emirate are expected to travel to Brussels in the coming weeks to discuss the deportation of Afghans from EU countries.
