Mali’s Defence Minister, General Sadio Camara, has been killed in coordinated attacks on military sites across the country.
Al Jazeera reported that the attacks took place on Saturday in multiple areas, including the capital Bamako and several other cities, further worsening the security situation.
Military sources said several installations and bases were targeted, with clashes still ongoing in some areas.
Reports indicate that armed groups linked to al-Qaeda, along with some Tuareg rebels, have claimed responsibility for the coordinated assaults across multiple provinces.
Malian military officials said that although parts of the attacks were repelled, the security situation remains fragile, and clearance operations by government forces are continuing in several regions.
