Pakistani authorities handed over 141 Afghan citizens, including women and children to the Afghan side at the Torkham crossing in eastern Nangarhar province.
Bakhti Jamal Gohar, chief of Torkham Border and Transport, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 141 Afghan refugees were transferred to Afghanistan by Pakistani authorities.
He said the detainees, originally from Kunar, Kapisa, Maidan Wardak, Kunduz, Khost, Kabul, Baghlan, Laghman, Paktia, Bamyan, Uruzgan, and predominantly from Nangarhar province, had been arrested in various regions of Pakistan.
He explained that these detainees were apprehended despite having legal documents and were handed over to Afghan authorities through the Torkham crossing.
He noted that this was the first time such a large number of detainees had been deported at once.
Gohar further stated that most of these Afghan nationals had been arrested in Islamabad and had spent between five and ten days in detention before being deported.
According to him, the deportees were referred to relevant United Nations agencies for assistance, and transportation costs were provided to help them return to their respective areas.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation confirmed the handover in a statement, announcing that the deported individuals had now reunited with their families.
In recent months, a significant number of Afghan migrants were repatriated from Pakistan via the Torkham crossing.
This development comes amid growing crackdown on Afghan migrants in Pakistan in recent days.
