The Spanish foreign minister has called for a clear global schedule for the implementation of a two-state solution to end the ongoing war in Gaza.
Spain hosted a meeting on Friday of representatives from European and Muslim countries, aiming to end the conflict in Gaza.
Reuters quoted Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares as saying: “There is a ‘clear willingness’ among the participants of the meeting to move from words to action and step towards a clear plan for effective implementation of the solution.”
The only way to solve the current crisis in the Middle East was the two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, he believed.
Albares insisted on a clear schedule for the effective implementation of the two-state solution, starting with Palestine joining the United Nations.
The representatives of Norway, Slovenia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey and EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Joseph Borrell and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa were also present.
Israel was not invited because it was not part of the contact group, the report added.
On May 28, the governments of Spain, Norway and Ireland recognised Palestine as an independent state.
