The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared state of public health emergency due to the outbreak of mpox in some African countries.
The BBC reported the disease was known to be spreading through sexual and skin contact, talking and breathing closely. Its symptoms are similar to flue, causing skin issues and can be lethal to patients.
The mpox, spreading fast, has so far killed 450 people in Democratic Republic of the Congo, the report said.
New cases of mpox have been registered in central and eastern African countries. Scientists are worried about its rapid spread and high death rate.
WHO has announced the state of global health concern due to the spread of the disease in some parts of Africa.
WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned mpox could possibly spread out the African continent.
To prevent the mpox spread and save lives, a coordinated global action was needed, Tedros stressed.
