Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, his foreign minister and a governor were confirmed dead in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province on Monday.
Reuters quoted a senior Iranian official as saying: “President Raisi, the foreign minister and all the passengers in the helicopter were killed in the crash.”
Meanwhile, Mehr news agency also verified the deaths, saying all passengers on the helicopter carrying the Iranian president and foreign minister were killed.
The copter carrying Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian was completely burned in the crash on Sunday and the site could not be accessed for hours.
Iran’s Red Crescent chief Pirhossein Kolivand, earlier, told the state-run TV. “We can see the wreckage and the situation does not look good.”
He added: “With the discovery of the crash site, no signs of life have been detected among the helicopter’s passengers.”
