An Iranian government official has called for the precious stones import from Afghanistan saying the neighbouring country was rich in precious stones and minerals, according to a media report on Monday.
Ghulam Raza Nazparwar, head of the Mining Chamber of Khurasan Rezvi province, said that Afghanistan has mines of precious stones that can be turned into value-added products.
A report in IRNA quoted Nazparwar as saying: “Therefore, our request is to import these stones from that country for processing and then export to world markets.”
The suggestion was made to the relevant Afghan government institutions but they rejected it, he added.
