Security forces have freed a woman locked up in a dark bathroom for ten years by her relatives in southern Ghazni province, officials said on Wednesday.
Information and Culture director Maulvi Mansoor Afghan said that the 36-year-old victim Shamsia had been imprisoned in Andar district for the past 10 years.
Shamsia was incarcerated in a dark bathroom of a house for ten years by her uncle and cousins in Nazarwalo village, Afghan said.
After being rescued by security forces, Shamsia was taken to the local hospital for treatment. Her arms and legs had paralyzed because of the lengthy imprisonment.
Shamsia has no brother, and her two sisters are married and her father has passed away.
Afghan said Shamsia’s uncle and one cousin had been arrested for investigation.
Similar cases had previously surfaced in other parts of the country.
