Afghanistan has resumed exports and imports through Chabahar port in Iran after a pause lasting two years, officials in northwestern Nimroz province said on Saturday.
Maulvi Asif Asif, Nimroz land transportation head, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Chabahar port, which remained inactive for two years, had created difficulties for traders in transferring commercial goods, but now it is reopened.”
He called Chabahar port one of the important economic centres of the country and said the port could play a key role in increasing the country’s trade.
He added ten commercial cargoes entered the country through Chabahar port three days ago and 60 other cargoes would enter soon.
“Since Friday we have organized a separate row or lane for the vehicles in this port to speed up the process of transportation, we are giving a separate queue for the drivers of these vehicles,” he explained.
According to him, with reopening of Chabahar port, many facilities have been provided to traders.
He added drivers used to receive appointment once a month, but now with the reopening of this port, the appointment will arrive within 15 to 20 days.
