Gunmen have launched an attack on a police station in the Zahedan city of Iran, sparking an armed clash between the two sides, a media report said on Saturday.
IRNA quoted Mahdi Shams, the attorney general of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchistan province, as saying the ongoing assault was launched in the morning.
Shams said fighting between the gunmen and security forces was still going on. He confirmed the death of a policeman.
Meanwhile, a security source told the state-run news agency that armed people had been surrounded by security forces and the situation in the city was under control.
Other sources said the assailants were equipped with suicide vests and two of them attempted to set off their explosives.
So far, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
