In a significant community initiative, WoodGreen Community Services recently orchestrated a comprehensive wellness event in Toronto, specifically designed to assist newly-arrived refugees.
This pivotal gathering saw the collaboration of over 25 organizations, all united in their mission to offer critical support to these individuals.
For more than eight decades, WoodGreen has been a beacon of hope, providing an array of services ranging from employment assistance to educational programs, all tailored to meet the diverse needs of Toronto’s populace, including children, women, seniors, and those with disabilities.
The recent event marked a milestone, reaching out to over 530 refugees, offering them vital information on education, employment, health, and legal matters, thereby facilitating their integration into Canadian society.
Notably, the WoodGreen extended its services in multiple languages, including Pashto and Dari, demonstrating a keen awareness of the cultural nuances of the refugee population.
Dr. Muhammad Yaqoob Hotak, Senior Manager Newcomer Wellness leading the immigration and settlement department at WoodGreen, emphasized the event’s strategic objective to foster collaboration among local institutions, enhancing the support network for the refugees.
The initiative not only aimed to inform but also to provide psychological support, addressing immediate concerns and offering entertainment and communal dining to create a sense of belonging and community among the attendees.
