Upon taking office as the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border to curb immigration.
He also delayed a proposal to grant birthright citizenship to children born in the U.S. to immigrant parents and canceled flights intended to bring over 1,600 Afghan asylum seekers to America.
During his inauguration ceremony, Trump reiterated that he would seek to remove millions of immigrants living in the U.S. without legal documentation, though he did not talk about the legal immigrants.
During his previous term, Trump enacted strict immigration laws, built a wall along the Mexican border, and significantly restricted the asylum application process.
How will Trump’s return to power impact U.S. immigration policy, and what will happen to Afghan nationals awaiting special visas or hoping to enter the U.S. through programs like TPS, P1, and P2?
What will the future hold for immigrants who have entered the U.S. illegally via the Mexican border?
These issues are discussed in this program with human rights activist Ahmadullah Siddiqi.
