An Afghan Canadian delegation met with MP Chandra Arya, a prominent member of Canadian Parliament to raise multiple issues Importantly focusing on the devastating earthquake that have affected the residence of Herat.
Afghan- Canadians held the gathering in the nation’s capital, Ottawa, Ontario to discuss immigration, housing crisis and settlement of newcomers Afghans.
In this meeting, former member of the Afghan parliament and ex-embassador to Canada from Afghanistan, Shinkai Karokhail, said that Afghanistan was currently facing a humanitarian crisis and needed aid and assistance.
She said the earthquake-affected people in Herat had lost everything and they desperately needed help.
Karokhel called on the government of Canada to help the Afghan nation in educational, humanitarian and economic areas.
Fahim Hakeem, another participant of the meeting, said that everyone knew that Afghanistan was not in a good situation, so everyone should try to solve the problems of Afghans.
In addition, he added that Afghans who had recently arrived in Canada were also facing many problems and the government should address their problems.
Dr. Nusrat Rasa Shinwari questioned the Canadian health care system and its non- efficiency. Labour shortage in every sector has been affected, especially the health sector. Long waits at emergency rooms & shortage of family doctors are a serious issue and need to be addressed immediately.
Arezu Nooristani, a courageous young woman, also spoke at the event by demanding the right of women for education in Afghanistan. She mentioned the unfair treatment of Afghans in Pakistan who are forcefully removed from their homes and pushed into the non-recognized Taliban regime.
The Canadian MP condoled with Afghans over the precious lives lost in Herat devastating earthquakes.
He said the newly arrived Afghans could carry out their business, education, government duties and other affairs in Cananda.
According to Arya: “We have always tried to find out how we can serve the people of Canada; It doesn’t matter to us where they are from, it matters to us who lives in Canada and works for this country.”
He said that people were complaining about the immigration process, but they were trying to bring people really in trouble to Canada.
He also added that Afghanistan was not in a good situation and needed a lot of humanitarian aid and expressed hope that Afghanistan would have a better future.
Arya was very understanding and promised to serve the community with non- bais approach. Every Canadian matter and the government of Canada is doing its best to continue to serve and protect.
The event which was organized by Afghan Canadians within coordination of MP Chandra Arya was very successful and inspiring to the youth and alike.
