A group of Afghans residing in Toronto, Canada, marked International Women’s Day on March 8 by holding a protest gathering.
They chanted slogans against the restrictions imposed on Afghan women, the ban on women’s education, and violence against them.
The event was attended by human rights activists, as well as both men and women, who condemned the ongoing restrictions against Afghan women in their speeches and called for fundamental human rights for them.
The protesters conveyed their messages through written slogans that depicted the hardships of Afghan women’s lives, the violence they endure, and the humanitarian crises they face.
Through emotional speeches that captured public attention, the protesters narrated the stories of Afghan women.
The human rights activists, who were among the speakers at the gathering, addressed the Taliban, accusing them of monopolizing control over Afghanistan and violating fundamental rights.
During the protest, female activists wrapped themselves in chains to symbolize the restrictions imposed on Afghan women, the ban on their education, and the deprivation of their social rights.
Additionally, participants chained books as a symbolic protest against the continued closure of schools and universities to Afghan girls.
With slogans, passionate speeches, and symbolic performances, the speakers condemned violence against Afghan women and called on international organizations to address the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan and take serious action.
