Afghanistan has been plagued by widespread instability for nearly half a century, with political and security instability at its core. During this period, ten different administrations have ruled, each pursuing its own distinct domestic and foreign policies, which has only contributed further to the country’s political instability.
Over the past 50 years, each ruler has believed that their policies could rescue Afghanistan from its political and security crises, but the reality has been quite different.
History has shown that each political leader, through their misguided policies, has inflicted irreparable damage on Afghanistan’s stability.
However, the fundamental question now is whether Afghanistan, despite such complexities and challenges, can ever achieve political stability.
In this edition of Subat (Stability) program, we discuss this issue with Dr. Faramarz Tamana, former head of the Center for Strategic Studies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan and a member of the Centre for International Politics at the University of Ottawa.
We now turn to his insights on this important topic.
