Afghans in Toronto celebrated Shab-i-Yalda (Yalda Night) with a warm and intimate gathering, sharing memories and experiences with one another.
The event, held in the company of family and friends in a cozy setting, offered an opportunity to reconnect and honor Afghan cultural traditions.
During the evening, the poetry of Hafiz and Mawlana was recited, and participants experienced the spiritual atmosphere of Yalda Night by taking turns reading from Hafiz’s divination.
One attendee remarked, “This night reminds us of family gatherings and the sweet taste of pomegranates and watermelon. Even though we are far from home, this celebration helps us stay connected to our culture.”
Live music and artistic performances were also part of the program, warming the hearts of attendees with memories of their homeland.
A special performance by Afghan artist Rashid Arya was warmly received, transforming feelings of longing into hope and joy.
For Afghans living in Canada, Shab-i-Yalda was not just a celebration but also an opportunity to preserve their identity and foster unity within the immigrant community.
The night once again proved that, even in the farthest corners of the world, traditions have the power to remind us that our roots will never be forgotten.
