The newly established foundation called Ghatol organised a consultative session in an effort to protect Afghanistan’s culture.
Dozens of Afghans participated in this gathering, which was held on Sunday.
Dozens of Canada-based Afghans, Ghatol head Dr Sayed Mohammad Ahmadi, cultural programme chief Hamdullah Arbab and board member Syed Ikram Afzali attended the gathering.
At the meeting, officials of the foundation presented information about their three-year strategy and programmes.
Dr Ahmadi, head of the foundation, said their main goal was to protect the Afghan culture and values. He asked the Afghans living in Ottawa to cooperate with then in this area.
He added: “We should work together for strengthening the foundation. We cannot do anything individually, so let’s try collectively to promote our culture.”
Participants of the jirga commended activities and programmes of the Ghatol Foundations and offered their advice on how to preserve the Afghan culture and values.
Abdul Wajid Shinwari told Wesal TV that he was very happy that such an important and useful body had started functioning today. It is good news for the Afghans living in Canada.
“The target of the Ghatol Foundation is to carry out cultural activities and keep the Afghan culture alive in Canada.”
Fatima Noori, a participant of the gathering, expressed happiness over the establishment of the foundation and said programs should be drawn up for Afghan children to learn Pashto language.
She called on the Afghan families living in Canada to speak their mother tongue with their children at home so that they did not forget their language.
Other members of the jirga also floated suggestions to the foundation and stout support for the newly-established foundation.
