From Afghanistan to Europe: Stories of Afghans who traveled through this deadly route
In the recently published US Department of State’s annual report on human trafficking, Afghanistan finds itself among the 11 countries where government involvement in trafficking is prevalent.
The report highlights instances of forced labor, human trafficking within government programs and camps, and documented strategies to lure and exploit children.
According to the International Organization of Migration (IOM) report, the previous government of Afghanistan collapsed on August 15, 2021, and replaced by the current caretaker government of Islamic Emirate, triggering mass exodus of Afghans seeking refuge in foreign and neighboring countries.
The report said during the matter of two years 3.6 million Afghans migrated to other countries, with 70 percent of them going to Iran, 18 percent to Pakistan and 11 percent to Turkey and two percent to European countries.
