Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have reached one of their most tense phases in the past half-century.
Even though both countries maintain open embassies in Kabul and Islamabad, political and economic engagement between the two sides has been almost completely stalled for more than four months, and travel and exchanges have significantly declined.
Beyond their shared historical roots, the relationship has long been shaped by deep mistrust, rivalry, geographic disputes, and strategic calculations.
Over the past decades, Islamabad was often seen as having the upper hand and repeatedly challenged Kabul in various areas. However, recent developments suggest the situation may be shifting, as Pakistan has increasingly raised concerns about Afghanistan both domestically and internationally.
In today’s episode of the “Stabat” program, we discuss the deterioration of relations between Pakistan and the Taliban, the damage this situation has caused for both sides, and the possible future of ties between these two neighbors. In this context, we have conducted an interview with Asif Durrani, a Pakistani diplomat and Pakistan’s former special representative for Afghanistan. We invite you to watch.
