In this part of “Successful Figures,” we interviewed Dr. Shaheer Nisari, a renowned academic and expert in social and cultural issues, joining us from Frankfurt, Germany.
Dr. Nisari, originally from Kalaignar in Logar province, has been living in Germany since 2010. He completed his primary education in Kabul and Pakistan before earning his medical degree from Kabul University.
Over the past two decades, Nisari has worked with various government departments in Afghanistan, the World Bank, and organizations across Europe.
Dr. Nisari has held key positions in Afghanistan, including Director at the ACG office, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, and Head of the Higher Education Strengthening Program at the World Bank.
He is also a writer, researcher on social issues, and a civil society activist.
Since migrating to Germany, Dr. Nisari has worked as a doctor in surgery, emergency care, and ICU at Diakonie Hospital and other medical centers in Frankfurt.
In this interview, we explore his experiences, from his leadership at the Ministry of Higher Education to his efforts in developing youth capacity and his membership in the European Association of Surgeons.
We also discuss the state of higher education in recent years, the challenges of migration, and how these challenges can be turned into opportunities.
