No military offensive against militants will be allowed in any part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, says the chief minister.
But Ali Amin Gandapur’s statement drew an instant reaction from the federal government which asked the chief minister not to mislead the masses on the issue of Azm-i-Istehkam operation against terrorism.
Gandapur told a public rally in Bannu district on Friday: “We have learnt from past experiences that such operations didn’t yield concrete results. Instead, they added to people’s sufferings by driving them from homes.”
KP residents had reservations about the treatment meted out to them, Gandapur said, hailing as successful talks with elders from Bannu and accepting all their demands.
Meanwhile, the federal government hit out at the chief ministerial remarks and accused Gandapur of misguiding the people of KP on the planned counter-terrorism operation.
At a news conference in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Safron Amir Muqam said: “Gandapur was saying the same what the military and civil leadership had already clarified about the Azm-i-Istehkam. Why is he making the campaign controversial?”
Also present on the occasion, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar blamed the CM for making “false claims” please PTI founder.
