Three Spanish tourists have been killed and a fourth injured in a gun attack in central Bamyan province, says the foreign ministry in Madrid.
In Kabul, the Ministry of Interior said without giving details three foreign tourists and one Afghan citizens had been killed in an armed attack.
It said four foreign nationals and three Afghans were also injured in the overnight shooting in the capital of Bamyan province.
Reuters quoted the Spanish foreign ministry as saying the consular emergency unit had been fully mobilised and the victims and their families were being assisted.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez wrote on X he was “shocked by the news of the murder of Spanish tourists in Afghanistan”. There was no immediate indication of why the attack happened.
The United States, the European Union and Iran have strongly condemned the shooting attack on foreign tourists in central Bamyan province.
US Chargé d’Affaires Karen Decker wrote on her X page: “I condemn the cowardly attack on innocent people in the Bamyan bazaar. Afghanistan has seen too much violence. My deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims.”
US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West said: “The United States is deeply saddened to hear about the shooting attack in Bamiyan, which killed and wounded Afghan civilians and foreign nationals. Our thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones. Violence is not the answer.”
Also, European Union (EU) Ambassador to Afghanistan Raffaella Iodice took to her X handle and strongly condemned the armed attack on foreign tourists.
She said: “We express our condolences to the families and relatives of the victims who lost their lives and were injured in this attack.”
Nabila Massrali, spokesperson for Foreign Affairs & Security Policy of the EU, wrote: “Afghanistan: we condemn in the strongest terms the armed attack against a group of foreign tourists visiting Bamyan.
She also extended her condolences with the families and loved ones of the victims who lost their lives and those injured in the shooting attack.
Nasser Kanaani, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, condemned the attack against foreign tourists and ordinary citizens.
Kanaani expressed his sympathy with the families of the victims of the terrorist act and wished recovery for the injured.
