Afghanistan have gained 30th spot in the latest FIFA Futsal World rankings and this represents a significant jump from their previous rankings of 45th globally and 8th in Asia.
At the top of these rankings, Brazil holds the first position, followed by Portugal and Spain.
FIFA announced the latest rankings on Monday.
The Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) confirmed this achievement on its Facebook page.
The federation wrote: “Good news for our country, our national futsal team gained 30th spot in the world ranking. It is the first time in history that the national side is making such impressive progress.”
Iran, Argentina, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Thailand, and France, which occupy the fourth to tenth positions, respectively.
Afghanistan is making impressive progress, as last year they ranked 99th.
Last month, Afghanistan for the first time qualified for the 2024 Futsal World Cup by beating Kyrgyzstan 5-3 in the Futsal Asian Cup in Bangkok.
