The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, to be jointly hosted by West Indies and the US in June this year.
In the mega short-format event, the national side will be led by spin sensation Rashid Khan.
Squad:
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Rashid Khan (c), Nangyal Kharoti, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqui and Fareed Ahmad Malik.
With few additions to the squad, Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq and Noor Ahmad are included in the team.
However, Hashmatullah Shahidi, who led Afghanistan in last year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, is not part of the national side.
Youngster Nangyal Kharoti, who made his international debut his year against Ireland, also finds a place in the squad, a post on the ICC website reads.
Rashid will lead the spin department with support from Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti and Mohammad Nabi.
Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad and Fazalhaq Farooqi have retained their slots and make up Afghanistan’s fast-bowling line-up.
