The Municipality of Tehran has announced a plan for rounding up and deporting Afghan child workers, including scavengers.
An Iranian media outlet quoted Tehran Municipality spokesman Abdul Mutahir Mohammad Khani as saying that under the plan, Afghan child workers and drug addicts in the capital would be sent back to their homeland.
Meanwhile, Iran’s National Migration Organisation said that the illegal child workers of other countries will be collected and returned to their countries, source added.
Specific figures of Afghan child labourers in Tehran are not available, but media had previously put the number at about 70,000.
