Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Wahidi has said undocumented migrants residing in the Islamic republic must return to their countries.
Wahidi said in a message on X: “Illegal migrants in Iran should return to their countries and the rest of them should contribute to the development of their country under a regular programme.”
Foreign citizens had previously been issued several types of cards for staying in Iran, he said. But all necessary details of those cards have now been incorporated into a smart cards.
According to Wahidi, his ministry wants to issue each foreigner residing in Iran a single identification card, which has already been distributed to some refugees.
Earlier, Wahidi had said foreign citizens living in Iran illegally should be evicted and those having legal documents registered and controlled.
According to the Ministry of Refugees in Kabul, more than 7,500 Afghan refugees were sent to their homeland voluntarily or forcibly evicted from Iran in the past week.
