An Afghan refugee has committed suicide in the Baharakoh area of Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan, according to police on Saturday.
Police said that Mohammad Shifae, 28, and Afghan national migrated to Pakistan two years ago.
He said Shafae filed asylum request to Canada and after two years he received a negative response after which he committed suicide.
Police said that Shafae committed suicide on Friday evening after suffering from immense stress and psychological pressure due to the rejection of his asylum request.
Hi body was handed over to his family after forensic investigation.
Allah Dad, one of Shefae’s relative, said that he hailed from Ghazni’s Jaghori district and left behind one son and a daughter.
Suraya Sabeer, Afghan refugees’ representative in Islamabad, said: “We witnessed the rejection of Afghan refugees asylum requests in 2023 by some institutions.”
She said last year three Afghan refugees, including a girl, committed suicide due to the rejection of their cases.
