Iranian border forces arrested more than 2,000 illegal refugees in border areas with Afghanistan and Pakistan in the past 72 hours, an official said on Tuesday.
Ali Reza Fazli, deputy head of social affairs at Sistan and Balochistan Border Command, told Fars news agency that Iran’s border security forces identified and arrested 2,285 immigrants trying to enter Iran illegally in the past 72 hours.
He said: “These Illegal refugees tried to enter Iran from Afghanistan and Pakistan despite warnings, so border police arrested them”.
According to Fazli, foreigners should enter legally Iran. He provided no details about the arrested refugees.
Meanwhile, border commander of Khorasan Razawi province Sardar Majid Shoja said on Saturday that 20,000 Afghan refugees have been arrested in Iran and deported via Dogharon in the last 15 days.
