At least five police personnel were killed and 27 others injured in a blast near a police van in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, media reports said.
The explosion took place close to a police van in the Mamund Tehsil area of Bajaur, District Police Officer (DPO) Kashif Zulfiqar told Geo TV.
Bajaur police spokesman Israr Ahmed said the officials were on their way to provide security for polio teams as a vaccination campaign was under way in the region.
Dr Wazir Khan Safi, medical superintendent at Khar District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ), said 12 of the wounded were being treated at the hospital while 10 seriously injured cops had been referred to a Peshawar medical facility.
Malakand Division Commissioner Saqib Raza said the polio campaign in the area had been suspended due to the blast.
