At least 40 people were killed and eight others injured after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in the mountainous Danasar area of Zhob District on Friday, according to media reports,  the accident occurred near the border between Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Officials said the bus was traveling from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan Province, to Peshawar when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge into a rocky ravine about 21 to 24 meters (69–79 feet) deep.

Sanaullah Shirani, head of the Zhob District Emergency Center, said the bus veered off the highway before crashing into the ravine. Rescue operations were hampered by the area’s rugged and difficult terrain.

Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Government of Balochistan, said the bus was carrying more passengers than usual because several travelers from another bus that had broken down were allowed to board, resulting in severe overcrowding.

Authorities said at least 40 people lost their lives in the crash, while eight others sustained injuries.
