At least eight people were killed and 34 others injured after Russia launched missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, overnight and early on Thursday, officials said.
According to Al Jazeera, Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said the attacks targeted about three dozen locations across the city.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that the strikes damaged residential buildings, leaving people trapped in a nine-storey apartment block and causing the partial collapse of a high-rise building after a direct hit.
“Kyiv is under attack from ballistic missiles and UAVs,” Klitschko wrote, referring to unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
Journalists from AFP in Kyiv’s central and eastern districts reported hearing more than a dozen explosions as Ukraine’s Air Force warned that ballistic missiles were approaching the city.
