At least 14 people have been killed and four others injured in a fire at an educational facility in Lucknow, the capital of India’s Uttar Pradesh state, a media report said on Tuesday.

The blaze broke out in a three-storey commercial building housing a library, an animation training studio for students and a veterinary clinic on Monday, Al Jazeera reported.

It said most of the victims were students.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said: “Fourteen children lost their lives in this incident.” He added that four others had been injured.

The report added the cause of the fire had not yet been determined. However, local authorities indicated the blaze started on the middle floor of the building and that thick smoke hampered rescue efforts.
