An academic and literary gathering was held in Toronto, Canada, by the Afghan Social Services Centre(ANSS) to honor and recognize the cultural personality of Safia Sediqi, a writer, poet, politician, cultural advocate and social activist.
During the ceremony, speakers highlighted Sediqi’s social, literary and cultural contributions. In recognition of her exceptional and sincere services, she was also awarded the 2026 Scientific and Literary Award.
A number of writers, political, social and cultural figures attended the event and spoke about Sediqi’s life, services and scholarly and literary legacy.
Safia Sediqi has so far published several works, including لوپټې، د شعر تر شا، نالوستی کتاب، سپینې خبرې، له شنه اسمانه باران، څو ګامه وړاندې، زما د کور مخامخ، که وخت همداسې نه و، در میان دود و آتش، د مستورې شال، د زړه غږونه، جوهر یو بېمثاله قاضي، د ملنګۍ کچکول and سلطان.
A number of her other poetry and prose works are also ready for publication, including دا ستا په نوم چې بېوفا وختې، صفیه صدیقي د نیمې پېړۍ په هېنداره کې، له نغري تر ښانکي، دا هڅې به رنګ راوړي، او لکه پخوا لکه هېر، نېزه وړی، پټ مېړه، په منډه یا په ټنډه، د بيبي مستورې شال، زما نوماندي، سپینې کوڅې، سپېره هډوکي، زما د ژوند یوه سپېڅلې کیسه، چې غوټۍ پسې ورې په لاس به درشم، د یوه کلي یوه پېړۍ بریالۍ هڅې, and other works.
Safia Sediqi, daughter of Haji Attorney Abdul Razzaq Sediqi, was born in 1343 solar year in the village of Nazarabad, Surkh Rod district of Nangarhar province, into a cultural and spiritual family.
She completed her higher education in the Judicial Prosecution Department of the Faculty of Political Science at Kabul University. She also earned two master’s degrees from the University of Peshawar in languages and literature, business and public administration, and received a diploma in project management from Aarhus, Denmark.
Safia Sediqi has served in several important positions in Afghanistan, including:
- Member of the leadership board of the High Council for National Reconciliation
• Women’s rights specialist at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs
• Senior adviser for media and social affairs at the Ministry of Public Works
• Senior adviser for equal rights at the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs
• Head of the Innovation, Peace and Development organization AIPD
• Member of the National Economic Commission of Afghanistan’s 15th Parliament
• Senior adviser for policy-making and staff capacity-building at the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development
• Director of planning, policy and international relations at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs
