In Nawa district of Helmand province, six women and two children were swept away by water. Among them, two women have died, two were rescued, and four others remain missing.
The head of Helmand’s Department of Information and Culture, Hafiz Abdul Bari Rashid, said that six women were swept away by the Helmand River in the Ainak area of Nawa district.
Speaking to Pajhwok around 9 p.m. tonight, he said: “Six women were carried away by the Helmand River; two were rescued, two died, and two are still missing.”
According to him, a man was transporting six female family members in a vehicle from one area to another and had stopped for a short break along the riverbank.
Rashid added: “Unfortunately, first an elderly woman was swept away by the river. Then five other women tried to rescue her. As a result, the elderly woman was saved, another woman was also rescued, but among the remaining four women, two lost their lives and two are still missing. Search efforts are ongoing.”
He also said that earlier today, a girl and a boy were swept away by the Helmand River in the “Sorkh Doz” area of Nawa district and are still missing.
