Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned his US counterpart in a phone call that if the United States resumes conflict with Iran, it would have “dire consequences” for Washington.
Newsweek reported that the Kremlin on Wednesday warned of “dire consequences” if fighting with Iran resumes amid a ceasefire, following a phone call between Putin and US President Donald Trump.
Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said Putin told Trump that renewed hostilities would be “dangerous and unacceptable,” particularly any ground operations on Iranian territory.
Ushakov added that Putin stressed such a move would carry serious risks not only for Iran but also for the broader international community.
The concerns came after Trump said earlier on Wednesday that he was rejecting Iran’s latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, leaving the blockade in place and prolonging the stalemate over the conflict.
