At least 14 people have been killed and 38 others injured in a highway bombing in Colombia.
Octavio Guzmán, governor of the Cauca region, said the explosive device was detonated on Saturday on the Pan-American Highway in the El Túnel sector of Cajibío, according to Al Jazeera.
“As of now, we report 14 people dead and more than 38 injured, including five minors,” Guzmán said in a post on X. He condemned the attack as an “indiscriminate assault” on civilians.
“There are no sufficient words for the pain we feel,” he added, urging a “decisive, sustained” government response to what he described as a “terrorist escalation.”
A video shared by the governor showed the aftermath of the explosion, with ambulances at the scene and mangled vehicles and debris scattered across the road.
“Cauca cannot continue facing this barbarity alone,” Guzmán said, noting that other unspecified incidents had also occurred in El Tambo, Caloto, Popayán, Guachené, Mercaderes, and Miranda.
General Hugo López, commander of Colombia’s Armed Forces, described the attack as a “terrorist act” and blamed a network linked to a man known as “Iván Mordisco,” one of Colombia’s most wanted fugitives, as well as the Jaime Martínez faction.
